1. What is Samsung Recycling Direct™?
Samsung Recycling Direct™ is Samsung Canada, Inc.'s new commitment to the recycling of consumer electronics throughout Canada. Samsung Recycling Direct™ has 15 depots nationwide (run by e-ColleX) giving consumers a way to recycle Samsung-branded electronics sold in Canada, with the exception of home appliances. Non-Samsung-branded consumer electronics will be accepted for a nominal fee. Find a location near you.
2. What consumer electronics are accepted for recycling with the Samsung Recycling Direct™ program?
Samsung Recycling Direct™ accepts all Samsung-branded consumer electronics sold in Canada ranging from televisions, DVD and VHS players, audio equipment and home theatre systems, to mobile phones, cameras, camcorders, computer monitors, printers, and peripherals. This includes non-Samsung-branded consumer electronics in the same categories, which will be accepted for a nominal fee.
3. Who are Samsung's business partners?
Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP) is Samsung Canada's recycling partner with facilities in Barrie, Ontario and Edmonton, Alberta. GEEP is an industry leader for electronic recycling in Canada, with state-of-the-art recycling facilities. They have a successful track record working in partnership with telecommunication service providers and manufacturers in both Canada and the United States.
4. How does Samsung Recycling Direct™ work?
Samsung Recycling Direct™ provides a convenient way for consumers to recycle their old electronics in an environmentally and socially conscious way. There are 15 e-ColleX locations across Canada, which are maintained by our partner, Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP). Consumers will not have to pay a fee when they drop off their Samsung-branded consumer electronics for recycling. Non-Samsung-branded consumer electronics will be accepted for a nominal fee paid directly to Samsung's contracted recycling partner upon delivery of the e-waste. Find a location near you.
5. Who is Samsung's recycling partner, and how does Samsung ensure that its recycling partner lawfully processes and disposes of consumer electronics?
Samsung Canada conducted extensive research into the qualifications, capabilities and integrity of our potential recycling partner. Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP) was selected because of its experience in electronics recycling with a zero-landfill goal.
Samsung will audit, and will continue to conduct periodic audits, of this recycler and its operations to ensure its performance remains in keeping with Samsung's stringent policies and contractual terms. The contractual terms to which a recycling partner must abide include, among others, that they will not, under any circumstance, incinerate, send to solid waste landfill, or export toxic waste as defined in a manner consistent with the commonly accepted Basel Convention and Basel Ban Amendment definition of hazardous electronic waste to developing countries. If, at any time, the performance of Samsung's recycling partner violates any term of our agreement, Samsung will immediately terminate that relationship. Recycling Direct™ allows Samsung to track and monitor consumer electronics collected as part of our program and also enables Samsung to capture and report on our progress.
6. How can Samsung ensure that the recycling of these consumer electronics and their components will be done in a safe and legal way?
By selecting a recycler that does not incinerate, send to solid waste landfill, or export toxic waste (defined in a manner consistent with the commonly accepted definition of hazardous electronic waste) to developing countries - further enforced by our ongoing audits and inspections of our recycling partner operations and processes - we are ensuring to the best of our ability that your consumer electronics are being recycled in the most responsible way possible.
7. Do participants have to pay to have their consumer electronics recycled?
Through the Samsung Recycling Direct™ program consumers do not pay a fee to recycle their Samsung-branded consumer electronics sold in Canada. Non-Samsung-branded consumer electronics will be accepted for a nominal fee paid directly to Samsung's contracted recycling partner upon delivery of the e-waste.
