Hope for Education FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions):

Why is the site telling me I have too many words?
In order for your essay to be accepted, it should only have SINGLE spaces between words.  Do not try to indent paragraphs using spaces. A single return will suffice.

Do you have any writing suggestions?
Make sure your essay focuses on the official essay topic listed below: 
How has technology educated you on helping the environment and how or why has it changed your behavior to be more environmentally friendly?Your essay should focus on:

  1. How current or emerging technologies increase your awareness and understanding of environmental issues, and cause you to make environmentally friendly changes in your life.
  2. How technology products can be made, used and disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
  3. Why technology will play an increasingly important role in educating people and helping them to change their lives in an environmentally responsible way.

Write your essay using a word processing program like Microsoft Word and do a spell check before you cut and paste into the essay field in the entry form.

Will essays written in Spanish be accepted?
Yes, entries will be accepted that are written in English or Spanish only.

Can I enter more than once?
According to the official rules: Limit one (1) entry per person/e-mail address. If multiple entries are received from any person/e-mail address, only the first such entry will be eligible.

Can I nominate a school that has won in the past?
According to the Official Rules, winning schools that have received a prize in the Samsung “Hope for Education 2007” Contest are not eligible to receive a prize.   

Can adults enter the contest?
Yes, if you are a legal resident of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia.

Can I enter if I am not living in the United States?               
According to the official rules: The Samsung "Hope for Education 2008" Contest  is open only to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia.

Can I nominate a college or university?
According to the official rules: Participants should nominate a public or state-accredited private K-12 school in their community within the United States. Home Schools, Colleges, universities and vocational/trade schools are not eligible for nomination. 

Why can’t I view the official contest rules?
The Official Contest Rules are displayed in a pop-up window. If your computer has pop-up blocking enabled you may have trouble viewing the page.

Why can’t I enter my phone number?
If you have trouble entering your 10-digit phone number, please be sure to follow the correct formatting – do not include spaces, parentheses, hyphens or dashes.  Your number should follow this format: 1234567891.
