SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS AND MICROSOFT ANNOUNCE WINNING SCHOOLS IN "HOPE FOR EDUCATION" CONTEST

Samsung and Microsoft Award More Than $2 Million In Needed Technology and Software to 101 U.S. Schools

Ridgefield Park, N.J. - Samsung and Microsoft Corp. today announced the winners of the second annual Hope For Education essay contest, a philanthropic program created by Samsung to benefit children's education with the latest technology. Through the program, 101 U.S. elementary, middle and high schools will receive a total of $2 million in technology prizes from Samsung and Microsoft.

Based on a winning essay submission describing the importance of technology in education, North Lincoln High School of Lincolnton, North Carolina will receive the grand prize of $200,000 worth of Samsung technology and Microsoft software. An additional 100 schools with winning essay submissions will receive $20,000 in technology and software. The Grand Prize, together with the 100, $20,000 prize winners announced today, brings the total dollar equivalency of the products donated by Samsung and Microsoft to $2,200,000.

Seven winning schools and their nominators located in the New York Metropolitan area are participating in a ceremony today at the Samsung Experience, located in the Shops at Columbus Circle in NYC's Time Warner Center. At the event they will receive congratulations from Mr. DJ Oh, President & CEO, Samsung Electronics North America and Peter Weedfald, Sr. Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Consumer Electronics & North American Corporate Marketing, Samsung Electronics.

The winning schools from the New York area are: Shulamith, Woodmere, NY; Samuel M. Ridgeway School, Edgewater Park, NJ; P.S. 230, Doris L. Cohen School, Brooklyn, NY; Central School, East Hanover, NJ; I.S. 59 Springfield Garden, NY; Lakeland High School, Shrub Oak, NY; Cardinal Hayes High School, Bronx, NY; Nightengale Elementary, Massena, NY; Morris Hills High School. Rockaway, NJ and Columbus Magnet School, New Rochelle, NY.

Technology prizes from Samsung and Microsoft include Samsung mobile, business and consumer electronics products, and education, productivity and entertainment software, such as the new Microsoft® Student 2006 program, Microsoft® Encarta® Reference Library and Microsoft OneNote® 2003.

About the Hope for Education Essay Contest

The essay contest began on April 28 and ran through July 1, 2005 and entries were submitted via www.hopeforeducation.com. The essays had to answer the question "How will the growing use of technology in the classroom benefit students in the future?" and they could be submitted by students, teachers, parents or anyone with concern about a particular school in need. The winning essays were chosen by a panel of judges representing the technology and education communities including: Johnson School of Business, Wharton School of Business, USA Today, TWICE (a consumer electronic trade publication) and PC Magazine. As an added incentive, each winning essay writer will receive a new Samsung digital audio player (model YH-J70S).
